Sniping is always the big problem in battle royals. They are either too strong, or useless. Sniping is much harder in Apex Legends. It’s not like other games where a solid sniper can 1 shot enemies. Even a headshot with a longbow with a skull piercer won’t 1 shot an enemy. So, if you are looking for sniping tips or advice on how to improve, be sure to read on.
Apex , and a lot of other games, have bullet drop and travel time. Just like a real projectile, it will be affected by gravity. You will have to compensate for gravity pulling the bullet down and the time it takes to reach the target.
Therefore, you must account for bullet drop and travel time. So basically the further away you are, the higher you aim and also if they are running across your screen you need to lead your shot which basically means to aim slightly in front of them so by the time the bullet travels to them, they effectively have run into it.
If you want to hit a person's head at long range, you will need to actually aim above their head so the bullet "falls" into their skull. If you aim at the head, gravity will pull the bullet down and you will hit their feet or the ground.
If the target is moving, you will need to aim where the target is going to be so they run into your bullet. If you aim directly at them, you will always hit behind them since by the time the bullet gets there, they have already moved.
As with weapon sets, my weapon setups to use is the longbow with a 3x scope. You can handle midrange fights no problem, decent enough in long range, and it’s almost like using a slug shotgun closer up. Once you have that fully kitted, pair it with a wingman with the highest extended mag, nothing more than a 1x scope, and you’ll be set for most situations.
My friend use the DMR and any sight without a fullscreen zoom, particularly the 1x2x or 2x4x because they give me an edge and a little range with the extra zoom when needed so I can snipe effectively just behind the other but be right there when they need it.
As I have mentioned in the beginning, sniping is kinda suck in Apex Legends. I wouldn’t recommend sniping in Apex Legends. Sniping is hard to do in this game because besides having so much health the movement speed is also insane. By the time you nail 2 good shots, they have already hid and healed. Snipers are good for that initial push, then switch to close range, but never sit and snipe, you'll have a bad time.
At the same time it's also very situational. If your team is doing a good job of pushing enemies you can sit back a little and pick off health to help them out and spot flanks.
I love sniping but unless you have a good communication with your team to push them once they get hit couple time, it’s useless. If you must though, lead your shots on moving targets and aim above their heads for long distances. Chances are you will at least hit them if not a headshot.
Triple take is so bad without the choke. If you like sniping for 19 damage that’s fine, but you can’t kill anyone without the choke. Longbow is much better. 110 headshot damage without skullpiercer and 140 with it. Use that.
