Both Western Fans And Chinese Fans Are Angry with Aesthetic Changes Made to Rainbow Six Siege
Recently, Rainbow Six Siege community get bombed for aesthetic changes that Ubisoft would be tweaking the aesthetics of Rainbow Six Siege maps and UI to comply with government's censorship. Some angry fans believe
Ubisoft is “bowing its head” to China by slightly altering some maps. In the past few days, upset fans bombarded Siege with negative reviews, dropping its reception to “mixed” on Steam. Aside from bad reviews from western fans,
Chinese fans are also in uproar. It seems that neither western fans nor Chinese fans welcome the upcoming changes.
As we know, Ubisoft are currently working towards preparing Rainbow Six Siege for expansion into Asian territories. As such, there will be some adjustments made to our maps and icons to ensure compliance.
The changes don’t affect the gameplay but it will mean removing overt references to gambling, in the form of fruit machines; sexual content, in the form of pole dancer signs; and, most unlikely of all, violence. For example, they changed melee kill and friendly fire notifiers, to graffiti and other decoration of numerous maps were shown off. Slot machines, neon signs of dancing women, environmental blood and graffiti featuring skulls will all be changed or removed entirely.
However, those aesthetic changes arose strong critics when they come out. In the past few days, almost 1,500 negative reviews have appeared, the vast majority of them condemning Ubi’ s alterations for the Chinese market. The fervor has been mostly centered around the game’s official subreddit. Many users see Ubi’s willingness to change anything about the game to appeal to China as offensive, as posts with tens of thousands of collective upvotes rose to the top of the subreddit. As with the extreme angry from fans, again, Ubisoft swears “We are adjusting art and visuals, but are not compromising what makes Rainbow Six Siege the game you know today.”
Moreover, on this issue, Chinese fans seems to be unified with western fans on this issue as well. They also don't want the changes. While the highly controversial topic, with mass complaints from players is a sight to behold in itself, it has gained more spotlight as even Chinese players started coming to the subreddit in order to support the other fans and even apologize for the visual changes. Some fans stated that they are fed up with having to suffer the restrictions of the Chinese government and don't want to see such restrictions imposed upon Rainbow Six Siege. From some Chinese websites, we can see that some Chinese players are just as outraged as the western ones. By the way, you can come to our website:

Of course, there are also fans who have shrugged off the alterations as no big deal, as long as they don’ t impact gameplay. They calls out fans to welcome those changes, allowing for more culture diversity as well as exposing the game to more people ( China ) and facing the fact that its easier for Ubisoft to run 1 game client than two. As with those challenges, what do you think? And it also made us wonder how Ubisoft is going to deal with this issue. Well,
